ASTRA

Description

Funded by the Erasmus+ Agency for a three-years period, the ASTRA project consists of forming a cooperation partnership in the field of school education. Led by the Dutch social sciences research laboratory Risbo B. V., it focuses on the place of native languages in the education of students in multicultural settings, using an innovative vertical approach.

Although quite often stigmatised or viewed as a challenge in schools, linguistic diversity has nevertheless proved very useful in terms of a child’s intellectual and behavioral development. The ASTRA project consortium therefore plans on organizing student-led focus groups in six Croatian, French and Dutch schools, on how the use of native languages could be better recognized and integrated in schools education policies.

Based on the conclusions of those focus groups and on partners’ expertise on the matter, training seminar will then be organized for twenty-four teachers in Croatia and France, as well as peer-learning activities involving six school leaders, on the following topics : development of action plans for long-term language inclusion, support of teachers in multilingual classrooms, and building of a language-inclusive school culture.

As a way of upscaling the results and expanding good practices in the whole European Education Environment, the consortium will develop an open-access digital toolbox including podcasts and lesson series.
